Get yourself adoption ready, preparation and patience are key to a successful adoption.

1. RESOURCES

Get the materials your dog/cat will need in advance. Your dog will need a collar and leash, a food and water bowl, a kennel or crate, and food. Don’t forget to get a name tag.

2. RULES AND ROUTINES OF THE HOUSE

Decide the ground rules.

Will the dog/cat be allowed in the house, on the couch, or not? Are there rooms it will not be allowed in? Who will feed the dog/cat? Who will walk the dog? Where will it rest at night?

3. ARRIVAL

Plan on someone being there for the first few days. Spend some time with the dog/cat to introduce yourself; please be patient and gentle in this process. Make sure you do not neglect any other pet.

4. HEALTH

If you already have dogs or cats make sure they are up to date with their vaccination and treatment. Despite the shelter’s best effort worms, diseases and viruses can be transmitted between animals. Due to the unknown health issues that may arise just like any other pet have some money saved for medical bills.
